Our Mission and Vision

Our Mission:

Our mission is to create exceptional learning experiences for students who are furthest from opportunity. We do this in partnership with families and communities.

Our Vision:

We transform schools into exceptional learning environments in partnership with families and communities. Students in our schools cultivate sharp minds, share their kind hearts, and explore their path and potential. UP graduates succeed on the path to college and pursue their passions.

Our Equity Vision Statement:

UP Education Network is committed to becoming a more anti-racist, inclusive organization. Our students’ future success depends on our united commitment to acknowledging and addressing inequitable conditions that exist in our work by looking deeply at our policies and practices, and how we work with our students, families, and each other to ensure we are providing the most equitable educational and professional experience possible. We believe it is essential to learn about and address our own biases, and acknowledge how these biases manifest in our interactions with our students, how we teach, how we work with families, and how we collaborate within the community. Our schools will be beacons of safety where students, staff, and families feel a sense of belonging and can be their true, authentic selves.

About UP

Since opening its doors in 2010, UP Education Network has focused on taking the lowest performing schools in Massachusetts and transforming those schools into exceptional learning environments. Our mission is to rapidly transform chronically underperforming district schools into extraordinary schools that sustain high achievement over time. When we re-start a school, we keep the students and school buildings the same, but change the school systems, leadership, talent, and programs in order to achieve dramatically different results. On average, UP schools improve students’ math scores by approximately 20 points and students’ reading scores by approximately 15 points within three years post re-start. We currently operate three schools in Boston that serve over 1,600 students, 84% of whom are economically disadvantaged and 72% of whom are high needs. Students in our schools cultivate their sharp minds, share their kind hearts, and explore their path and potential in order to succeed on the path to college and pursue their passions.

Where We Work

  • We operate three schools in Boston: UP Academy Boston, UP Academy Dorchester and UP Academy Holland.
  • Our schools serve more than 1,600 students in grades PreK-8.
